Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the most common questions about private Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lessons with Professor Garry Nakamura.

1. Who are private lessons for?

Private lessons are for everyone! Whether you are a complete beginner who needs one-on-one time before joining a group class, an intermediate student looking to refine a specific guard or submission, or a competitor preparing for a tournament, a private session is the fastest way to accelerate your progress.

2. Where do the private lessons take place?

The location is entirely the client's choice. We can train at my studio in **Springfield**, at your house, or at any location where there is comfortable space and you are comfortable training. This flexibility ensures you can train where you are most focused.

3. What is your availability for private lessons?

I offer lessons seven days a week (Monday through Sunday) from **6:00 AM to 9:00 PM**. I strive to accommodate your schedule, whether you are an early riser or prefer to train late.

4. How does your experience with surfing and yoga influence your teaching?

My experience with surfing (flow, balance, and core strength) and yoga (flexibility, breathing, and body control) is directly integrated into my instruction. I emphasize efficient movement, proper base, and deep breathing under pressure, all of which are essential principles in all three disciplines. This holistic approach helps students develop a more natural and injury-resistant BJJ game.

5. How long are the private sessions?

Standard sessions are 60 minutes. If you wish to cover more material or prefer a more intensive session, we can arrange for 90-minute lessons upon request.

6. What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a private lesson without penalty. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be charged for the full session fee. I appreciate your respect for my time and schedule.
